Stricter gun control laws did not prevent a deadly weekend in Chicago from happening as separate shootings occured in the most populous city in the U.S. state of Illinois within a day.
NBC News reports the series of gun violence in Chicago on Saturday left 5 people killed and 5 others wounded.
Authorities reportedly said the first incident took place at about 2:15 a.m. when an unidentified man shot Ronnie Chambers in the head and wounded the latter’s companion who were both sitting in a vehicle parked near the 1100 block of South Mozart Street.
The 34-year-old ex-convict died on the scene while his pal was rushed to the hospital and is in “stable” condition.
Later at about 4 a.m., a masked gunman shot three men outside Kevin’s Hamburger Heaven. Two died on the scene while the third one sustained gunshot wounds and was brought to the hospital. The victims were waiting for their orders when the killer open fired at them.
In the afternoon at around 4:15 p.m., dead bodies of a teenager and a man in his 30’s were found lying in the street after they were shot in the head. Names of the two fatalities have not been released.
The bloody Chicago shootings are being investigated.
