A doctor was killed inside his office Monday at a medical center in Southern California. The 70-year-old gunman, reported to be his patient, shot the urologist multiple times.
Police were called to the scene of the crime near the Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach after a resident heard about six shots fired at quarter to 3 in the afternoon.
Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert, 52, was found dead in his exam room at the medical office in Orange County. Police found a gun at the scene.
The suspect identified as Stanwood Fred Elkus, who did not escape and stayed in the room with the victim, was immediately arrested by responding police officers.
The retired barber had surgery for a prostate problem, according to his neighbor. His motive for the killing is yet to be known.
